This first-year high school mathematics course is designed for junior high students who have met the eligibility requirements. This course is a thorough treatment of operations on real numbers, including irrational numbers expressed as radicals. The student will learn to perform operations on polynomial expressions and rational expressions. We will solve linear equations in one and two variables. The student will learn to solve quadratic equations by factoring, by completing the square, and by using the quadratic formula. The student will learn to graph equations of the form Ax + By = C. Systems of equations will be solved using graphing and algebraic methods. The above topics will be used for problem-solving applications throughout the course.
Accelerated Honors Geometry I (8th grade)
This course is similar to Geometry - CP2 except students move through the course at a faster pace while studying geometric proof in greater depth and doing more challenging problems. Prerequisite: “C” or better in Honors Algebra I or “A” in Algebra I CP2 with teacher recommendation.
Algebra This course is designed to develop skills in the fundamentals of algebra. The following topics are covered: Evaluation of expressions and equations with variables, rational numbers, equations, applications of rational numbers, inequalities, polynomials, factoring, rational expressions, functions and graphs and linear equations.
Algebra I
This course is a thorough treatment of operations on real numbers, including irrational numbers expressed as radicals. The student will learn to perform operations or polynomial expressions and rational expressions. We will solve linear equations in one and two variables. The student will learn to solve quadratic equations by factoring, by completing the square, and by using the quadratic formula. The student will learn to graph 21 equations of the form Ax + By = C. Systems of equations will be solved using graphing and algebraic methods. The above topics will be used for problem-solving applications throughout the course.

Geometry This is a complete course in geometry that is studied by high school students nationwide. To prepare students for college studies, the subject of geometry is used to develop a student’s reasoning, logic, and analytical skills. In the first semester, students will learn the basic vocabulary of geometry, inductive and deductive reasoning, use geometric proof to study the properties of parallel lines and congruent triangles, and study various relationships within triangles involving concurrent lines. The second semester will include the study of ratio and proportion, transformations, properties of quadrilaterals, the study of right triangles including the Pythagorean Theorem and the trigonometric ratios, properties of circles, area, and volume. Prerequisites: a passing grade in Algebra I.
Honors Geometry
This
course is similar to Geometry - CP2 except students move through the course at a faster pace while studying geometric proof in greater depth and doing more challenging problems. Prerequisite: “C” or better in Honors Algebra I or “A” in Algebra I CP2 with teacher recommendation.
Intermediate Algebra This course is designed for those students who would normally have difficulty with a standard Algebra II course. It provides a simpler, yet thorough, review of Algebra concepts. The topics include real numbers, polynomials, rational expressions, equations, inequalities, problem-solving, complex numbers, system of equations, graphing, functions, relations, exponents, and logarithms. A graphing calculator is required (TI – 83-84). Prerequisites: at least a grade of "C" in Algebra I and Geometry or recommendation by a mathematics instructor.
Algebra II This course will review the concepts started in Algebra I and introduce new topics such as exponential and logarithmic functions, conic sections, sequences and series, and trigonometry. Problem-solving skills will be emphasized and students will cover all the basic material in the Algebra II course. A TI-84+ calculator will be required. Prerequisites: At least a grade of “C” in Algebra I and Geometry or the recommendation of a mathematics instructor.
Honors Algebra II This course expands on the concepts started in Algebra I and introduces new topics such as exponential and logarithmic functions, conic sections, sequences and series, and trigonometry. Problem-solving skills will be emphasized and students are expected to be able to solve the more difficult problems in each section. A TI- 84+ calculator will be required for this course. Prerequisites: At least a grade of “C” in Algebra I and Geometry or the recommendation of a math instructor.
Math IV – (Precalculus) This course consists of a review of the Real Number System, exponents and radicals, polynomials, fractional equations, solving equations and inequalities, graphing on the Cartesian plane, inverse functions, quadratic functions, synthetic division, real zeros, complex numbers, rational functions, trigonometry, radians versus degrees, graphing trigonometric functions, inverse trigonometric functions, fundamental trigonometric identities and equation solving, sum and difference multiple angles and product-sum formulas in trigonometry, law of sines and cosines, logarithmic functions, solving with vectors, systems of equations and inequalities, matrices and determinants, analytic geometry. A graphing calculator, preferably a TI- 84+ is required Prerequisites: At least a grade of "C" in Algebra II or recommendation of an instructor.
AP Calculus
This college-level course builds upon the mathematics that students have studied in earlier classes and introduces the new concepts of calculus. Students will learn about the three major topics of calculus: limits, derivatives, and integrals. Applications of these concepts will be emphasized. Students will learn to analyze problems graphically, numerically, and algebraically and must be able to explain these ideas verbally. A graphing calculator, preferably a TI-84+ is required. The advanced placement (AP), AB Calculus test will be taken in May and can result in college credits. Prerequisites: At least a grade of “B” in Pre-Calculus or recommendation of a math instructor.
Probability & Statistics
This course is designed for students with a wide variety of interests. Statistics involves collecting numerical information called data, analyzing it, and making meaningful decisions based on the data. It is intended for seniors who normally would not be enrolled in either Math IV and/or AP Calculus.
