Computer Concepts
This is a one-semester course designed to introduce students to using computers. The class consists of nine weeks of keyboarding where students will learn proper keyboarding technique. The second part will be an introduction to word processing, spreadsheet, and database. Required course. Software: Microsoft Office.
Graphic Design I
This course will present the student with an introduction to the fundamentals of graphic design. It will introduce and allow students to learn the basics of Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Photoshop by editing images, creating digital illustrations and logos, newsletters, brochures, and other projects associated with print communications. The goal of this course is to provide students foundational skills in graphic design and give students knowledge and skills necessary to further study or employment in the field of graphic design. Prerequisite: Computer Concepts. One semester, open to sophomores, juniors and seniors. Software: Illustrator & Photoshop
Graphic Design II
This course is a continuation of the introductory level course bringing together the skills and concepts learned in Graphic Design I. Assignments will challenge students with new techniques and more in-depth problems to be solved. The goal of this course is to further develop students’ skills in graphic design and knowledge necessary for advanced study or employment in the field of graphic design. Prerequisite: Computer Concepts and Graphic Design I. One semester, open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Software: Illustrator & Photoshop
Web Page Design I
In this one-semester course, students will learn internet basics, basic HTML as well as designing, maintaining and updating a web page using Adobe Dreamweaver. Prerequisite: Computer Concepts. Software: Adobe Dreamweaver
Web Page Design II
In this one-semester course, students will maintain and update a personal website and a blog using WordPress software. It is a project-based class where students work on their personal sites and post weekly blog entries. In using/learning WordPress, the student will be able to utilize skills acquired in Web Design I. Prerequisite: A grade of B or above in Web Page Design I and approval of instructor. Software: WordPress
Accounting I
Accounting I is designed to teach the basic principles, concepts, and procedures of accounting as used in businesses organized as sole proprietorships and partnerships and for both service and merchandising businesses. Working papers, projects, and business situations are used to reinforce standard accounting practices. One-semester course open to juniors and seniors.
Business Law
This introductory course focuses on the development of law in the U.S. and its importance to society. Review of actual case problems, mastery of legal terminology and developing the ability to think through legal problems analytically and systematically is emphasized. One semester course open to juniors and seniors.
Consumer Education
This survey course is designed to help a student become an effective consumer by intelligently managing his personal and economic affairs. Some of the topics covered include budgeting, banking, credit, insurance, and taxes. Required course.
Economics
This one-semester course is designed to give the student a basic understanding of our economic system. This course provides more advanced preparation and information than provided in the Consumer Education course listed above.
Marketing
Through a study of Marketing, students learn about the forces of marketing that operate in our market-orientated economy. Analysis of recent changes and trends in distributing goods and services is made in addition to an in-depth study of retail and wholesale markets. One semester course open to juniors and seniors.
